Boxing Gloves

Weighted boxing gloves are designed to protect your hands and wrists during sessions. They come in a range of weights starting from 10 to 16 OZ. The heavier the glove the more protection it will offer and the more you will work hard. Many fitness boxing classes steer towards the use of weighted gloves for this very reason. A good firm fit is important, and many users will additionally use wrist wraps as well for additional support and knuckle protection.

Your opposing partner will use focus pads or hit shields to lead your range of punches throughout the training sessions. (see Focus Pads)

Important for all fitness boxing classes or individual tuition is correct technique. Be sure to engage with an accredited trainer for correct guidance for punching techniques, stance, balance, weight distribution and breathing to minimise risks and maximise reaching your fitness goals. You will quickly realise this is an energetic skilled activity that will use every muscle group in your body and improve both core strength and aerobic output.

Red Corner Junior Boxing Gloves come in 6 and 8 OZ weights. If kids want to join in on training sessions then these gloves will do the trick in protecting hands, wrists and knuckles.  Important for all fitness boxing classes or individual tuition is correct technique. Punch Mitts

Punch Mitts or Bag mitts are a smaller less padded glove used by many fitness boxing enthusiasts. They have less padding, are lighter yet still offer protection for your knuckles and wrists. Bag mitts can be used in conjunction with free standing boxing bags or hung boxing bags as well as with a partner using focus pads or hit shields to lead your range of punches throughout the training sessions.

Bag mitts don’t come in weights like boxing gloves, but they do come in sizes so try to get a pair with a little bit of additional room if you wish to use cotton inners or wraps – or if they are for personal use you may wish to have a firmer fit with no inners.

Correct technique is important for all participants of fitness boxing classes or individual tuition.

Focus Pads

Focus Pads are used by your partner or coach to guide you and teach your repertoire of punches and moves. They also offer this person the necessary protection. Good focus pads will fit well and feel like an extension of your arm and hand.

A good focus pad will have a small ball in the palm which feels snug and means the user doesn't have to worry about the pad flying off when struck. Adjustable straps at the back of the pad help keep it also in place. The better the pad fits, the less energy the user will need to expend leaving them to concentrate on the series of punches they are leading for the opponent. Trust us – this is a good thing – you still need to be fit and focussed for this role in fitness boxing.
